Estovakia, officially the Republic of Estovakia, is a small country in the northern region. The republic mostly spans the very northeastern reaches of the Arumovian region, with the republic's entire eastern side consisting of coastline abutting the Great Eastern Ocean. Port Rhodes serves as both the republic's seat of government and its largest city. Estovakia primarily shares its western and southwestern border with the neighboring Republic of Arumovia. While Estovakia for a vast majority of its history has been a British colony and still shares major ties with the Commonwealth, the overwhelming majority of its population are primarily of Russian or Ukrainian descent. However, Estovakia is considered to be simultaneously an Anglophone and a Russophone country, as virtually the entire population speak English as a first language, regardless of descent. Despite continuing to bear British symbols, including the top-left canton, Estovakia is run as a republic, not having used a parliamentary monarchy with the British royal family as heads of state since 1994. The Estovakian government continues to implement the Westminster parliamentary system.
History
Tsarist-era outpost (1670s C.E.-1710 C.E.)
The modern-day region of Estovakia had been primarily settled by Russian fishers and hunters at first. Evidence suggests that the first European settlers arrived in the area around the 1670s, primarily focused on fur hunting, trading, or fishing. The region had been considered an outpost of the Russian Empire, although Tsarist Russia loosely exercised authority over the 'colony'. Much of the colony's initial inhabitants composed of peasants, primarily from Russia or Ruthenia, that had been redirected to the Estovakian outpost for either criminal offences or certain legal directives. The settlement of Sokolovsk (currently Port Rhodes), named after one settler had noticed a significant amount of falcons around the nearby forest, had been established around approximately 1693.
