Axiom

This page is a work in progress.

Axiom is an extremely powerful mod, packed with a variety of building tools. Because it is very easy to accidentally cause large-scale damage with the mod's tools, it's access is limited to only a select few players. This page serves as a basic guide for some of the more easily accessible areas of the mod.

Builder Tools

The first thing you will notice about the mod, is the 10th hotbar slot. Scroll your mouse-wheel, or press 0, to select this slot.

By holding the Alt key with this slot selected, you can scroll between different tools, as well as seeing 3 flags which you can apply to most of the builder tools.

  • Keep Existing
    • Toggles the ability to prevent overriding pre-existing blocks.
  • Copy Entities
    • Toggles the ability to copy entities when moving a selection.
  • Copy Air
    • Toggles the ability to copy air when moving a selection.

For all of the tools except Extrude and Setup Symmetry, you create a selection using the left and right mouse buttons. Using the middle mouse button, you can expand your selection to cover the targeted block. You can do this as many times as you need until you have the desired selection.

When manipulating your selected area, Axiom will display 'ghost' blocks, which act as a preview for the action you are about to take. This is extremely useful to know exactly what changes you will be making before you confirm them.

For all the tools, you can also use Ctrl + Z to undo the last action, and Ctrl + Y to redo the last undo.

Move

The move tool moves a selected area to another location.

Once you have selected your area, you can use the mouse wheel to move the selection around. The direction of the movement is determined by the direction you are facing, and an overview of how far you are moving the selection on each axis. You can lock which axis the selection moves on by holding down the X, Y, or Z keys while scrolling.

You can also flip and rotate the selection. To flip it along the axis you are facing, press Ctrl + F. To rotate clockwise in a 90 degree increment, press Ctrl + R.

At any point after starting the movement, you can left click to cancel the action.

Once the selection has been moved to the desired location, right click to confirm the action.

Clone

The clone tool allows you to make multiple copies of your selection, and place them wherever you like.

Clone works exactly the same as move, except after left clicking to place, you can continue to manipulate the selection, and continue to right click to place another copy. Once you have placed as many copies as you want, left click to finish the action.

Stack

The stack tool allows you to clone your selection multiple times in a grid pattern.

Once you have selected your area, use the scroll wheel to stack your selection in the direction you are facing. You can lock which axis the selection stacks on by holding down the X, Y, or Z keys while scrolling. Middle clicking after starting the stack will extend your stack to the location that you middle clicked.

At any point after starting the stack, you can left click to cancel the action.

Once the selection has been stacked as much as desired, right click to confirm the action.

Smear

The smear tool stretches blocks between 2 points, and is interrupted by existing blocks.

Once you have selected your area, use the scroll wheel to smear your selection in the direction you are facing. You can lock which axis the selection smears on by holding down the X, Y, or Z keys while scrolling. Middle clicking after starting the smear will extend your smear to the location that you middle clicked.

At any point after starting the smear, you can left click to cancel the action.

Once the selection has been smeared as much as desired, right click to confirm the action.

Extrude

The extrude tool does not use a selection. Left clicking while the extrude tool is selected will extrude that face of the same block. Right clicking will shrink that face of the same block.

Erase

The erase tool removes blocks within a selection. It also allows you to right click a block to remove up to 128 connected blocks of the same type.

Once you have selected your area, press the Del or BACKSPACE key to delete all blocks in the selected area.

Setup Symmetry

Setup Symmetry allows you to position and configure a 'Symmetry Node'. Once the node is set, you can start building with symmetry. The node can be placed on the face, edge, or corner of a block.

To enable symmetry, you'll need to use either the flip or rotation modifier.

  • To use the flip modifier, use Ctrl + F. For example, to flip on the X axis, face the X axis and use the flip modifier. This works on all three axes.

  • To use the rotation modifier, use Ctrl + R. Unlike flip, this only works on one axis.

You can use these keybinds at any point as long as the symmetry node is set.

The flip modifier can use more than one axis at a time and you can combine both the flip and rotate modifiers simultaneously.

The node can be removed at any time by pressing the Del or BACKSPACE keys.

Builder Mode

The Builder Mode menu can be accessed at any time by holding the Alt key while any of the 9 standard hotbar slots are selected.

Hotbar Swapper

By using the scroll wheel, you can swap between an unlimited number of hotbars. To save a hotbar, simply set up the hotbar with the desired blocks/items, and then select a different hotbar.

Capabilities

On the left hand side of Builder Mode, there are a number of different toggle-able options. From top to bottom, these are:

  • Phantom
    • Prevents you from triggering blocks eg. pressure plates.
  • No clip
    • Allows you to move through blocks while flying
  • Angel placement
    • Allows you to place blocks in mid-air
  • Fast place
  • Infinite reach
    • Allows you to break and place blocks from further away. Configurable in the toolbox menu.
    • Note that this only applies to placing and breaking blocks. Making WorldEdit selections is still subject to the default reach limit.
  • Tinker
    • Allows you to right click blocks to edit them, similar to using a debug stick.
  • No updates
    • Prevents you causing block updates to neighbouring blocks when placing/breaking blocks.
  • Force place
    • Bypasses normal block placement restrictions.
  • Replace mode
    • Changes your right click to replace the targeted block with the block in your hand.
    • This can also be toggled with the R key.
  • Bulldozer
    • Allows you to break blocks very fast by holding down left click.

Flight Speed

On the right hand side is a slider which can be used to adjust your flight speed.

100% is the default, and the maximum is 999%, for effectively 10x speed.

You can either click and drag on the slider, or use the + and - buttons to adjust the speed.

Note: This is an alternative to using the /speed command. They do NOT stack.

Toolbox

The toolbox button on the right hand side opens up a number of additional settings. Most of these are beyond the scope of this guide, but a couple are worth mentioning:

  • Show Display Entity Gizmos
    • Toggles the visibility of the little grey cubes used to edit display entities.
  • Infinite Reach Limit
    • Defines a block limit for the Infinite Reach capability, so you don't accidentally break something 100 blocks away.
    • The slider can be set anywhere between 5 (default) and 100, or slide all the way to the right to reset to infinite.
  • Flight Momentum
    • Changes how 'smooth' creative flight feels.
    • 100% is default. 50% feels similar to walking on solid ground. 0% is like being super sweaty in an FPS game.

Create Display Entity

Clicking this button opens a tool which allows you to create Display Entities.

First, choose between an Item, Block, or Text display.

Item and Block Displays

Item and Block displays work in much the same way. Most of the settings are not needed for basic entity manipulation.

  • Select the desired block or item by clicking the stone block preview.
  • Click Done.
  • Your entity will spawn with a small grey cube inside. This small cube is called a Gizmo.
  • You can manipulate the entity by left clicking the Gizmo.
  • You should see some controls centred around the Gizmo. These controls can all be clicked and dragged.
  • By clicking and dragging the gizmo itself, you can move the entity without restrictions.
    • You can hold Ctrl while moving the entity to snap it to the centre of a block.
  • By using the arrows, you can move the entity, locked to that axis.
    • You can hold Ctrl while moving the entity to snap it to the centre of a block.
  • By using the squares, you can move the entity, locked to that plane.
    • You can hold Ctrl while moving the entity to snap it to the centre of a block.
  • By using the cubes, you can stretch the entity on that axis.
    • You can hold Ctrl while using the cubes to stretch the entity on all axes at once.
  • By using the large circles, you can rotate the entity around that axis.
    • You can hold Ctrl while using the circles to lock the rotation to 15 degree increments.
  • You can use the scroll wheel to 'nudge' the entity in the direction you are looking.
  • You can copy and paste the entity by using Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V.
  • You can delete the entity by pressing the Del or BACKSPACE key.
  • You can use Ctrl + Z at any time to undo the previous action.
  • To finish manipulating the entity, click anywhere outside of the controls. The Gizmo will remain visible, unless these are toggled off in the Toolbox menu.

Text Displays

For plain text, simply type your text in the text field and click Done.

To format the text with custom colours, fonts, etc., we need to use Minecraft's internal notation within the text field. For example, to create coloured text, you would use the following template:

{"text":"your text here","color":"#000000"}

The 6 digits after the # are a Hexcode. This is a standard colour notation which can be used to set the text to any colour.

You can also add on formatting. For example, to make the text bold, add ,"bold":true before the closing }.

Once the text entity spawns in, you can manipulate it in the same way as Block or Item displays.
