Big City Big Build

A series of server build contests held in order to showcase the building ability of the community, as well as expanding Big City (now known as Monarch), the server's main city project. The winners received prizes such as in-game money, items, and codes for Steam games.

History

The first contests were held by _specialk, and took place over a period of 2 or 3 days, generally on weekends. Specific plots were laid out in the then Big City map for contestants to create their entries, leading to large areas of the city being constructed over a short space of time.

During 2013, Ouhai_Ruby took over running the contests, and several were held between 2013 and 2015. These contests were a longer format, with no set area for builds to be completed in. Instead, contestants were instructed to build their entry in the server's Creative map, and include the co-ordinates of their build within their entry post.

Jump Quests

Jump quests were puzzles created by staff that could be played at any time by warping to the location. The goal was to get from the start location to the end location by traversing across complex obstacles. These obstacles required the player to move and jump from platform to platform, and failure to successfully land on the subsequent platform would result in falling out of the arena (thus failing the puzzle).

Successful completion of a jump quest rewarded the player with currency/diamonds.

Locations

Jump Quest 1

Jump quest 1 was located under Sandy Point in the Minecraft Survival Beta 1.2_02 map. Completion would reward the player with 30 coins.

Jump Quest 2

Jump quest 2 was only accessible by warp, in the same map as Jump Quest 1.

Anti-Cheating

The first two maps did not have any mechanics to prevent cheating. As some players had access to the /fly command, the system was based around trust and any player spotted cheating would be banned from the server.

The Purge

The Purge was an event that took place prior to the change to the Survival 1.8 map. As part of this event, griefing rules for Survival were suspended, allowing for the complete destruction of the map.

Conception

The Purge was decided upon by a community vote, in which players had the choice between a standard reset and The Purge. The latter option was chosen by a 32-9 vote. Several people objected to The Purge, on the grounds that they did not want to see their hard work destroyed.

Aftermath

The Purge was originally intended to last for 1-3 days, but it only lasted several hours due to the wide-scale destruction. After this, the Survival 1.8 map was introduced.

World Expo 2018

The PCB World Expo 2018 was the second Creative 1.12 event of its kind, succeeding the PCB World Expo 2015[1]. It included eight participating countries (in order of the results): Australia[2], France[3], the United States[4], the United Kingdom[5], Italy[6], the Netherlands[7], Mexico[8], and Canada[9]. A leader or builder to each pavilion posted a topic on the forums to introduce the audience of the event to their countries. The host of the first World Expo, Ducky, returned alongside zwinky12 and Penguina to act as the judges for the event. On 12 August 2018, a topic on the forums was posted by zwinky12 to officially announce the event of which commenced three days later.[10] The building process concluded nearly a month later, on the midnight after 9 September. On the next day, zwinky12 introduced the winners of the World Expo via the forums.[11] The three winning countries included Australia in 1st, France in 2nd, and the United States in 3rd. All contributors to the event were then granted badges, with the top three teams receiving a gold, silver and bronze tag to represent their position.
